Program Description
-Interns will have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience in the offices of consulates representing various
international governments, United Nations missions and international organizations, to learn about mechanisms of
political movement in a dynamic, intellectually rigorous environment.
-Interns will participate in regular workshop sessions with consular officials, top lobbyists, issue-based advocates,
and Jewish leaders on the international scene, to understand the currents of effective Jewish communal advocacy
on an international based issue approach.
-Interns will be partnered with mentors who are successful in shaping front-line policy decisions and who are
renowned in their fields to gain insight and guidance from an insider perspective.
Selected participants will be eligible to earn academic credit by enrolling in a seminar and internship course on their
college campus.

Kesher Israel: The Georgetown Synagogue is a vibrant Modern Orthodox synagogue and community in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. The community consists of young professionals, graduate students, young married couples, empty nesters, and young families, including many congregants who have been members of Kesher for decades. Due to the community's proximity to the seat of government, many of its members practice law, work in the public sector, or consult for the government. Kesher Israel is the only full-service Orthodox synagogue in downtown Washington, D.C. offering daily minyan, Jewish education, conversion services, social programming, and full Shabbat and Holiday offerings. Kesher is a crossroads of the Jewish world, hosting thousands of visitors and guests from around the world who visit Washington on business, for vacation, or for a variety of diplomatic and governmental functions. Kesher’s membership and broader community contains a diverse array of backgrounds, levels of observance, and geographical origins. Kesher and its members are committed to a life of serious halachic (Jewish Law) observance and deep Torah study, while serving as leaders and forces for good in our community, our country, and around the world.

Position Overview:
Kesher Israel seeks a programming professional to facilitate diverse synagogue community programming and serve as an integral member of the synagogue team. This role will report to the Director of Operations and work closely with the Rabbi and lay leadership. The Programming Manager will ideate, facilitate, and promote programs in support of Kesher’s mission. The Programming Manager will proactively create efficient processes and be adept at working effectively and collaboratively across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have experience in event planning and finance, program management, and Jewish communal activities, as well as knowledge and understanding of Modern Orthodox Jewish community observance and practices, including Shabbat and Jewish holiday practices. The Programming Manager should be an organized, responsible Jewish professional who wants to support the overall operations of a Modern Orthodox synagogue community.

Responsibilities:
The Programming Manager scope of work would be as follows:
Maintain full responsibility for organizing, implementing and supervising established and new programs:
Synagogue-wide social and holiday-oriented programming (i.e. Shabbat dinners, Purim Seudah, Scholars in Residence, etc.)
Ad hoc programs or initiatives (i.e. community-wide concerts, lectures, etc.)
Function as liaison to other local synagogues for joint programming
Create demographic-oriented programming (i.e. older adults, empty nesters, young professionals, youth/family programs, etc.)
Oversee established, recurring programs, making sure program leads and groups have what they need, such as room set up, program supplies, Zoom links, Zoom moderation, etc. (i.e. Cookie Minyan, Kiddush, etc.)
Bring proposals to leadership for programs that support the synagogue’s strategic vision, align with the Jewish calendar and other mission-focused priorities
Lead staff and synagogue committees to help identify specific program ideas, recruit the necessary volunteer help and pertinent resources, oversee program execution and facilitate program reviews.
Manage the overall Program budget as well as the budget for individual programs, being responsible for documentation and reconciliation of expenditures.
Oversee Program calendar planning; work with the Rabbi and volunteers to organize and maintain the synagogue’s Program calendar.
Support email marketing of individual programs as well as managing content of the weekly Shabbat and Digest email announcements and other shul-sponsored newsletters.
Design and produce flyers, postcards, invitations, posters, and other print promotional materials for Kesher Israel programs and initiatives, working with synagogue staff and outside vendors as appropriate.
Assist in the marketing of synagogue programs and initiatives across our communications platforms including email, website and social media.
Support leadership with the planning of large fundraising events for the synagogue.
Prepare monthly Board Reports, including qualitative and quantitative results of month’s work, as well as a narrative on work in progress.
Prepare and submit required tracking and progress reports for grants from outside organizations.
Attend scheduled programs as necessary, including those outside of traditional work hours.
Engage in developing meaningful relationships with congregants of all ages.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
2+ years of relevant full-time work experience
Ability to work on scheduled nights and weekends (including Shabbat and Jewish holidays)
Experience in event planning and execution (professional or volunteer)
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Modern Orthodox Jewish customs, rituals, practices and observances
Exemplary written and verbal communications skills, and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently at an efficient pace, meeting deadlines
Creative thinking and problem solving; ability to collaboratively ideate and execute work with professional staff and lay leadership
Proficiency in Google Workspaces Suite and Microsoft Office
Experience in ShulCloud synagogue management software, Canva, and Constant Contact is preferred
Ability to relate to community members and program participants of varied backgrounds, religious levels, and age
Experience in grant writing, non-profit financial management, or Jewish communal work (professional or volunteer) is a plus
Authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring sponsorship

This position is grant-funded through December 2026 with opportunity for extension. Title and compensation are commensurate with experience. The salary range is $35,000 to $65,000. Kesher Israel provides generous paid time off, including sick, bereavement, and personal leave. Kesher Israel does not provide healthcare or related benefits. Kesher Israel is a flexible, hybrid work environment. You will be expected to work onsite in our Georgetown location 2-3 days per week plus attend Shabbat and Holiday programs as scheduled, with the opportunity to work remotely at other times, in coordination with the Director of Operations and Rabbi.

Primary Responsibilities:

Depending on JLens’ priorities, responsibilities may include:

Assist JLens in our scoring of companies in our index, including researching the public companies held in JLens’ portfolio, assessing disclosure relevant to JLens’ Jewish value pillars, and analyzing company performance.

Assist JLens in team projects, which may include short-term research projects and assistance with JLens’ communications and development.

Attend social responsible investing webinars, taking notes of potential areas of advocacy for JLens.

Collect information on investor relations/corporate sustainability contacts at new JLens constituents and input data into internal systems.

Assist JLens with data management, including organizing company scoring and engagement information in our internal systems.

Conduct research on new potential donors and investors in JLens’ strategies.

Contribute to JLens’ impact reporting and communications by analyzing company data across JLens’ six values pillars.

Create communications pieces for JLens’ blog, newsletter and social media.


Qualifications

Skills:

Strong research (both quantitative and qualitative) and analytical skills

Ability to analyze data from multiple sources, identify key information, and communicate key points in writing

Detail oriented with exceptional organizational abilities

Excellent writing skills

Ability to work efficiently in a virtual environment and to multi-task

Commitment to ADL and JLens’ mission and values, and interest in the corporate responsibility/socially responsible investing field

Demonstrated interest in ESG and/or knowledge and experience in any or all of JLens six areas of focus is a plus

Education

Preference for coursework including business, ESG, environmental studies, social impact, Jewish studies or other relevant areas of study, but open to anyone with a demonstrated interest

Responsibilities

Program Development
Work collaboratively with clergy, synagogue leadership, and parents to create and implement a diverse range of engaging, educational programs and activities tailored to different age groups (from preschool to high school), including overseeing regular youth programming, community-building events, and staffing for Shabbat mornings and holidays

Youth Engagement
Build meaningful relationships with, and encourage active participation of, young members through innovative approaches that resonate with the youth community.

Staff and Volunteer Management
Hire, supervise, and coordinate all staffing for Shabbat and holiday youth group programs. Recruit, train, oversee, and mentor community teens to assist in program implementation and leadership development.

Communication and Outreach
Maintain regular communication with parents and the broader synagogue community to promote events, engage the youth, and keep our community informed about youth programming and opportunities for involvement.

Hours and Work Locations

This is a full-time exempt position. Work will be performed primarily in-person at Ohev Sholom, with the ability to work remotely up to 50% and some flexibility around daily hours, with the expectation of availability to attend/lead programming on some Shabbatot/holidays and/or weekends/evenings. The Youth Director works closely with the clergy and reports to the Director of Operations.

Reduced hours or flexible arrangements will be considered for the right candidate, including for those with seasonal, part-time, or academic commitments.

Preferred Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree (completed or near-completion)
-Minimum two years of experience working in an educational Jewish youth environment (formal, informal, or experiential) in paid or unpaid positions, including camp, school, or synagogue setting.
-Experience managing a team of paid and volunteer staff
-Excellent organizational skills and time management
-Strong communication skills (written and spoken); ability and comfort communicating effectively with a wide range of people is required
-A wide range of religious and educational backgrounds will be considered, but strong Jewish identity, knowledge of Orthodox Jewish practices and customs, and an ability to appreciate and model Ohev’s culture of Modern Orthodoxy are a must.
-Authorization to work in the United States (required).

The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) is hiring for the 2024-2025 Eisendrath Legislative Assistant Program, a year-long fellowship for recent college graduates (including current seniors) or individuals with equivalent academic and/or professional experience who are interested in Judaism, social justice, and public policy.

The RAC is particularly interested in investing in and engaging with applicants from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds, including People of Color, people with disabilities, people from marginalized socioeconomic backgrounds, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those who live at the intersection of these and other marginalized identities. No specific academic or Jewish background is required, and applicants do not need to be affiliated with the Reform Jewish Movement.

Social Justice Fellowship for College Students

Get paid to learn with other college students!

Join a 6 session, virtual cohort of Jewish students guided by Torah in pursuit of a more just world. You will be exploring leadership and social justice through the studies of Jewish texts, zoom classes, and personal leadership development meetings.

An honorarium will be provided.

The cohort will run from March-May, meeting every other week.

THE JCRC INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2024

The JCRC of Greater Washington works with undergraduate and graduate college students interested in serving as Interns for a semester, an academic year, or a summer.

Interns support the JCRC’s core work of promoting social justice, combatting antisemitism and other forms of hatred. Our interns participate in exciting and meaningful projects and are given a unique insider’s view of our dynamic organization in action.

Interns will be mentored by a staff member at the JCRC and will have significant opportunities to interact with the entire staff.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Government Relations:

Research/monitor upcoming legislation pertinent to our legislative priorities and policy resolutions.
Observe legislative sessions and other hearings on the State, County, and Local levels and monitor key discussions and legislation
Assist in planning and staffing Advocacy Days
Planning special community briefings and meetings with elected officials
Programming assistance on local, state, federal government and/or Israel-related projects
Israel Advocacy:

Work on Israel Advocacy Trainings
Liaise with local synagogues and institutions about their Israel programming
Work with Israel Action Center on IEF
Intergroup Relations:

Work with interfaith organizations regarding government relations and advocacy
Liaise with local synagogues and institutions about their inter-group programming
Social Justice:

Research and preparation of periodic social justice newsletter, including possible interviewing of community agencies and institutions
Liaise with local synagogues and institutions about their social justice programming

Education:

Assist in organization and implementation of Student to student, JCRC’s peer education program which prepares Jewish high schoolers for interaction with non-Jewish teens in the area with a goal of putting a “human face” to Judaism, thereby combatting anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry and intolerance.
Facilitate Student-to-Student presentations
Training and education of students for Student-to-Student program
Implementation of interfaith dialogues as part of Student-to-Student
Assist in organization and implementation of our Holocaust speakers program which brings Holocaust survivors and their descendants into schools in the greater Washington area.

Successful candidates for JCRC internships must demonstrate the following:
